Once harvested
our fibers are bought from the farmers
at a guaranteed price above market value. This gives them
and their families a security that they don't have in the open market.
Also a reason why the license No. 4543 has been issued by the official
Fairtrade Label Organzation FLO for the organic Pima cotton production
of our Peruvian naturtex partners. Using appropriate technologies and
fair trade practices, our products are converted from field to fabric, with
sustainable textile processing. In all stages of production employees enjoy
a higher wage than the local average expectation. Working hours are fair
with no enforced overtime. Employees have the right to join a union,
have good redundancy rights and paid maternity leave. Above all,
workers are respected as individuals whose skills are highly appreciated.
Sustainability is an ingrained part of our philosophy. Every little thing
we do has to measure up to our core values of protecting the environment
and supporting local communities. All processed materials, like handmade
buttons, zippers as well the labels and hangtags,
are produced as sustainable as possible in Perú. Hangtags are
made from recycled paper, the minimal plastic packaging is also
recyclable, and the inks on hangtags and labels are water based.
